Advocacy at WCREALTORS

As a REALTOR, you have many hands in your pockets trying to take your hard earned commission. Your Association works hard to ensure that the professional image of a REALTOR® is upheld.
Advocacy is two tiered at the local association level. First, we have the Texas Association of REALTORS® Political Action Committee (better known as TREPAC). TREPAC is responsible for raising funds to back local, state, and national candidates and elected officials who have a proven track record of protecting private-property rights, preserving the dream of homeownership, and supporting the vitality of the real estate industry. The other advocacy tier is our Governmental Affairs Committee. It is the mission of Governmental Affairs to identify, analyze and recommend association policies and issues on local, state and national political issues as well as identify candidates who embrace legislation to protect private property rights and the real estate industry.
The amount WCREALTORS is slated to raise is set annually by TAR. For 2017, our TAR goal is $49,210; however the Board of Directors has instructed the TREPAC Committee to raise $60,000. At WCREALTORS, this money is raised a couple different ways. The first way is dues billing; when you make a payment for your annual dues, there is an optional amount included on your invoice ($45 for REALTORS® & Affiliates & $110 for Designated REALTORS®). Since the amount is an optional investment, we raise about half of the amount during dues billing. The other funds are raised through members that see the value in TREPAC investing amounts of $1,000+ and through TREPAC focused events. More information about each of the TREPAC events can be found here.
Govenmental Affairs Committe
The committee interviews candidates during elections and recommends that TREPAC support specific candidates. The interviewing task force is assembled by the Governmental Affairs Committee, however the entire membership is invited to participate. During legislative years (such as 2017), the Governmental Affairs committee works in partnership with TAR to promote their Public Policy agenda. More information about the 2017 Public Policy should be available from the Texas Association of REALTORS® by January 2017. Our GA Committee feels very strongly about remaining bipartisan with donations made independent of party affiliation, at the end of the day, we are the REALTOR® Party. The REALTOR® Party is an energized movement of real estate professionals fighting to keep the dream of homeownership alive. Now more than ever, it is critical for Texas REALTORS® to come together and speak with one voice about the stability a sound and dynamic real estate market brings to our great state and nation.
Currently, the Governmental Affairs Committee has two sub-committees, Affordable Housing & Open House Sign Ordinance. To learn more about each of these initiatives, please visit here.
