The Texas Real Estate Commission and the Texas Land Title Association has seen a dramatic increase in this fraud this year. REALTORS® are at risk of losing their license and being named in a suit if they facilitate listing and selling a property without the owner’s knowledge. Scammers are impersonating property owners to illegally sell commercial or residential property they do not own. They are using the real property owners social security number and drivers license number in the transaction, as well as other legitimate personal information and notary credentials. By doing this many have successfully tricked agents, title companies and buyers. In the end, they get the seller’s proceeds and everyone is defrauded.
Join us online or in-person on June 2nd at 9:30am to learn how to protect yourself and your clients from impersonators. Guest speaker David Tandy, CEO of Texas National Title and Chairman of the TLTA Seller Impersonation Task Force will present a detailed overview of the fraud process, point out potential red flags, and discuss next steps for those affected.
In person guests will be entered into a raffle for a special prize.
Breakfast will be served beginning at 8:30am.
